PyeongChang 2014: The Dream Program Enters Second Week

The 2007 Dream Program is now entering its second and final week in PyeongChang, South Korea. The 143 young athletes from 33 countries who are involved this year are currently being trained in snow sports like alpine skiing and snow boarding at Yongpyong Resort as well as ice sports including speed, short track, and figure skating in the Gangneung Ice Rink.

The young athletes are also enjoying various Korean cultural and social experiences including lessons in Taekwondo and learning break-dancing moves from the Korean B-Boys team, Virus. Last weekend, they visited Gyeongbokgung Palace, SunGyoJang, the cultural relic in Gangwon Province, and the tourist site Jungdongjin. Other activities included ceramic art, magic, and learning Nanta, a famous Korean musical performance. A candle ceremony will be held on the final evening.

Seungwoo Lee, a 24 years old college student who has been involved in the program for three years as a volunteer, said: The Dream Program isnt simply just training winter sports, but is more significant in that it provides the opportunity for youngsters from around the world to experience difficult cultures and make new friends. I am still in contact with a number of people in last years program; I will definitely work as a volunteer again for the 2014 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The participants are planning to demonstrate their honed skills on the 15th, a day before the closing event, at the Champ, Run Together event. The Dream Program has been run since 2004 as a promise to the IOC during PyeongChangs bid for 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
