(ATR) This is a press release from the IOC announcing its 2016 Candidate City Evaluation Commission.
USOC Names 2016 Candidate City Evaluation Commission
Schedule Announced for Visits to Chicago and Los Angeles
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) announced today the 11-person Candidate City Evaluation Commission that will review the domestic bid books and conduct in-city inspections within the next four weeks of the two U.S. cities under consideration to become the U.S. Applicant City for the 2016 Games: Chicago and Los Angeles.
Following a model used by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to evaluate bid cities, the USOC formed the Domestic Candidate City Evaluation Commission to assess the proposed Games infrastructure in each city and to analyze the 17 themes contained in the domestic bid books each city submitted to the USOC on January 22.
In recognition of his excellent leadership of our domestic bid process to date, I have appointed Bob Ctvrtlik as Chair of the Evaluation Commission, said Peter Ueberroth, USOC Chairman. Our commission will be comprised of 11 individuals from across our country with specific, complimentary expertise in international sport and bidding that will empower us to make effective final judgments on the relative qualities of our two bid cities.
I have also asked the USOCs CEO, Jim Scherr, to accompany the USOC Evaluation Commission on its visits to both cities so we can gain the value of his perspective, Ueberroth said.
"The exhaustive evaluation process we have put these cities through during the last year, including the analysis our Domestic Candidate City Evaluation Commission will conduct, will ensure that we enter the international competition for the 2016 Games with the best prepared and most qualified U.S. bid in history," said Bob Ctvrtlik (stuh-vert-lik), the USOC Vice President, International with responsibility for the bid process.
The Candidate City Evaluation Commission, along with members of the USOC Management Team, will visit Los Angeles February 28-March 2 and will meet with Chicago officials March 5-7. Following the visits, the Candidate City Evaluation Commission will prepare and submit a final report to the USOC Board of Directors for consideration during its April 14 meeting.
Each city will make a final presentation to the USOC Board of Directors on April 14, after which the USOC Board will select the U.S. Applicant City for the 2016 Games.
