(ATR) With fewer than 1100 days to the 2010 opening ceremony, the Olympics overseer says “time is running”.
The first of two 2010 Coordination Commission meetings in 2007 got underway with opening pleasantries, led by chair Rene Fasel.
Fasel said “time is running” and noted that there are 1,074 days left until opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics. He reminded VANOC’s executive team, seated across from him in the VANOC boardroom, of their strong partnership that ultimately will determine whether Vancouver hosts the “best-ever” Winter Games in less than three years.
VANOC CEO John Furlong replied with his welcome to the Coordination Commission and said that previous visits had made VANOC a stronger organization. First on the agenda, after asking media to leave, was showing of a video.
Coordination Commission members were shuttled back to their hotel at 4 p.m. and then treated to a night at General Motors Place where they saw the Vancouver Canucks beat 2004 Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1.
Fasel, as president of the International Ice Hockey Federation, has been a frequent visitor to the site of 2010’s gold medal hockey games.
This visit will apparently involve few venue construction tours. Fasel will discuss the outcome of this week’s meetings at a Thursday news conference.
