(ATR) Public opinion for a Salzburg Olympics bid is on the rise, according to the results of a new survey by the Gallup Institute Austria.

The results published March 18 show 63 percent of Salzburg respondents are in favor of the Olympics. Those opposed numbered 29 percent, with 8 percent undecided.

These figures show a two-point rise over the results of a similar survey by the Gallup Institute published in November, 2006. That survey indicated 87 percent support across Austria for the bid.

By comparison, the Sochi bid says a

November 2006 survey showed 86 percent support for the bid in the city. A poll this month shows 76 percent support nationwide.

A similar poll for PyeongChang shows 96 percent suport for the bid, 91 percent across the country.

The IOC is conducting its own polling in each of the three cities. The results will be included in the report of the IOC 2014 Evaluation Commission to be released on June 4.
