The Golden 25, now in its 11th year, is a compilation of the personalities who will play the greatest influence in 2007 for the business of the
Olympics. The listing is the product of a matrix assembled by ATR that includes names, events and issues. New names on the list for 2007 include European commissioner for sport Jan Figel’ (23)
and Patrick Hickey (15), president of the European Olympic Committees.
More and more, the Beijing Games will become a daily fixture in the life of the Olympics.
2007 is the final year for preparations, whether organizer, sponsor, NOC or sport. While Verbruggen and Liu have a direct link to 2008, most of the other names on the 2007 Golden 25
have a link to Beijing as well. Some, such as IOC President Jacques Rogge (3), play a hands-on role influencing the outcome of the Beijing Games.
