  • By the Book: 2012 Olympic Budgets

    03/22/05

(ATR) New York plans to have the highest operating budget for the 2012 Olympics, nearly doubling Moscow, which has the lowest budget. The operating budget covers the costs of running the Games, not construction of venues.

Proposed budgets, from highest to lowest:

    New York: $3.0843 billion
    Paris: $2.65 billion
    London: $2.462 billion
    Madrid: $2.000125 billion
    Moscow: $1.79 billion

All the cities propose to cover their operating budgets out of sponsorship, ticket sales, and television rights.

By the Book is a new feature for Around the Rings.Com readers. From now until June 3, weĆ¢??ll post daily updates at www.aroundtherings.com with side-by-side comparisons of the five 2012 cities drawn from the bid books submitted to the IOC.
