  • Spain, Germany, Paralympic Medal Leaders

    09/19/04

(ATR) Spain and Germany are tied for the lead for medals with 14 apiece at the Paralympic Games in Athens. Through two days of competition Great Britain is right behind the leaders with 12, China and Australian with 11 and France with eight.

The first few days of this week will bring the peak competition days with events in 15 of the 19 Paralympic sports.

The country sending the largest delegation to Athens, the United States, may end up being last among the major players at the Paralympics for TV coverage. With Olympics rights holder NBC passing on the Paralympics until the 2010/2012 cycle, these Paralympics will air on the Outdoor Cable network in a two-hour program in November.

Visa ? the only one of the worldwide Olympic sponsors to step up for the Paralympics ? will sponsor the Outdoor Network coverage.

As part of Visa?s overall Paralympics sponsorship that uses the theme ?Making the Difference?, Visa hosted a fun day in Athens last week for children with disabilities and Paralympic athletes.

The Athens Paralympics will end on September 28.
