ATR) The Olympic Village for the Athens Olympics is now open and the first teams will check into their accommodations today.
The complex of 366 buildings has nearly 2,300 apartments with a 17,400 beds.
Built at a cost of more than $300 million, the villa-style residences will become moderate-priced housing after the Games.
Along with the athletes and officials, International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge will be staying at the village, a custom he launched with the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Banker and Athens 2004 board member Ioannis Manos will be the mayor for the Olympic Village.
