Greece Looks to Games for Tourism Boost
(ATR) - The new ministry of tourism for Greece, despite a late start, is still hoping to boost travel using the Olympics as a springboard.
Minister Dmitris Avramopoulos announced a new campaign this week that will see a tripling of the annual tourist promotion budget of 6.5 million euros.
Avramapolous blames the previous government for not acting sooner to link the Olympic Games with marketing Greek tourism. The first campaign under the new budget will be launched in October.
The tourism minister now says a drop in tourism for this year estimated at 20% may actually reach 40%, even with the Olympics.
