Olympic Flame now Burning for Athens
(ATR) - Under glorious spring skies the Olympic Flame for the Athens Olympics was lit in a ceremony attended by more than 10,000 people at the birthplace of the Games in ancient Olympia.
The event was trouble-free, with the tightest security ever held for a flame lighting. Along with hundreds of Greek police, sharpshooters were stationed on a hillside overlooking the ceremony.
The dignitaries included Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, his predecessor Costas Simitis and International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge who says he is optimistic about the pace of preparations for Athens, just over four months away.
