(ATR) The torch relay for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games starts one year from now in Rome, winding a two-month route across Italy, ending at the Stadio Comunale in Turin on Feb.10, 2006 for opening ceremony.

Plans for Italyâ??s third torch relay in almost 50 years were unveiled in Rome today at the headquarters of CONI, the National Olympic Committee of Italy.

Athens marathon champion Stefano Baldini will be the first of 10,000 torchbearers, most of whom will be chosen from the public.

Presenting sponsors of the relay are Coca Cola and Samsung, repeating their efforts from the Athens 2004 relay.

Along with stops in all of the major cities and towns in Italy, the relay will reach Cortina Dâ??Ampezzo on January 26, 2006, the 50th anniversary of Italyâ??s first Winter Olympics.

Official date for the start of the Turin Olympics Torch Relay will be December 8, 2005. A lighting of the flame will take place a few days before at Ancient Olympia.

The torch design by the famous Pinafarina firm will be unveiled in January.
