Press Release: Chicago 2016 Attends General Assembly of Olympic Council of Asia and First-Ever Asian Beach Games
CHICAGO (October 21, 2008) Today, a delegation from Chicago 2016 presented Chicago's vision for the Olympic and Paralympic Games at the Olympic Council of Asia's (OCA) annual general assembly in Bali, Indonesia. The delegation met with sport leaders from across Asia to discuss Chicago's bid for the 2016 Games. Members of the Chicago 2016 delegation also attended the first-ever Asian Beach Games, which began on October 18.
Representatives from Chicago 2016, including Chairman and CEO Patrick G. Ryan, and members of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) met with leaders of sport and various National Olympic Committee (NOC) members from the region. This event marked Chicago 2016's second presentation in a series to each of the five continental associations. Earlier this month, the delegation traveled to Acapulco, Mexico, to present to the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO).
It was a pleasure meeting with the OCA and leaders of sport in Asia during the general assembly, said Ryan. The Asian Beach Games represent the growth of sport in this region, and as we celebrate the inaugural year of this event we hope to apply our experiences to the development of amateur sport in Chicago.
The delegation from Chicago 2016 also had an opportunity to hold informal meetings with leaders of sport and engage with IOC members in attendance to discuss Chicago's bid further.
