    All four bid cities propose plans for temporary construction on existing venues for table tennis for the 2016 Olympics. In this installment of By the Book, Around the Rings presents a look at the venues planned by Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo for the sport of table tennis.

    Chicago
    Chicago’s table tennis venue will be located less than 5 km from the Olympic Village. (Chicago2016.org)

    • $3.5 million for temporary construction
    • 2 km from Olympic Village
    • 7 km from IOC Hotel
    • Currently used as a convention center

    Madrid
    Madrid’s IFEMA Pavilion 7 is currently used as an event venue.(Madrid2016.es)

    • 5,000 Capacity
    • $4.8 million for temporary construction
    • 6 km from Olympic Village
    • 10 km from IOC Hotel
    • Currently used as IFEMA event venue

    Rio de Janeiro
    Riocentro-Pavilion 3 in Rio will have different capacities for center court and preliminaries. (Rio 2016)
