    All four bid cities will spend more than $5 million for temporary construction of their triathlon venues for the 2016 Olympics. In this installment of By the Book, Around the Rings presents a look at the venues planned by Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo for the sport of triathlon.

    Chicago
    Chicago will use a public beach for its triathlon venue. (Chicago2016.org)

    Madrid
    Madrid’s Casa de Campo Triathlon is currently used as a sport and leisure venue. (Madrid2016.es)

    • $5.8 million for temporary construction
    • 13 km from Olympic Village
    • 8 km from IOC Hotel
    • Currently used as a sport and leisure venue

    Rio de Janeiro
    Fort Copacabana in Rio is less than 1 km from the IOC Hotel. (Rio 2016)

    • $9.7 million for temporary construction (venue also will be used for marathon swimming aquatics)

    Tokyo
