Patrick Hickey (ATR)
Patrick Hickey, #13, President of European Olympic Committees
Hickey could be steering the European Olympic Committees towards something special, a continental games modeled on the Asian Games.
The project received the blessing of IOC president Jacques Rogge last month and the EOC's 49 member associations are currently being canvassed for their feedback.
Hickey is also striving to increase the EOC's visibility and influence within the European Union; the EOC Office in Brussels is contributing to these efforts. Throughout 2011, Hickey will be wielding all his influence to ensure EOC members get a fair deal from London 2012 Olympic organizers.
Hickey, 65, succeeded Jacques Rogge as EOC president in 2001. He joined the IOC in 1995 and has been president of the Olympic Council of Ireland since 1989.
In addition to the IOC Marketing Commission, Hickey also sits on the IOC co-com for Rio de Janeiro.
