    500 Days to World Cup

    Monday marks 500 days to go until kickoff of the 2014 World Cup.

    Brazil and FIFA will celebrate the milestone with a special event in the capital of Brasilia.

    In the meantime, click here to watch a video update on stadium construction prepared by the Secretariat for Social Communication of the Presidency of Brazil, or check back at 11:30 a.m. local time Monday for a live stream of the 500-days-to-go ceremony.

    Rogge to Asia

    Around the Rings will be on the scene this week as Jacques Rogge leads an IOC delegation to inspect preparations for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing and 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang.

    It’s the IOC president’s first trip to Korea’s winter sports capital. He visited Nanjing en route home from the 2010 YOG in Singapore.

    Also travelling with Rogge are IOC director general Christophe De Kepper, Olympic Games executive director Gilbert Felli, sports director Christophe Dubi and Gunilla Lindberg, chair of the Coordination Commission for PyeongChang 2018.

    2019 Bids to PASO

    Thursday is the deadline for cities to declare their interest in bidding for the 2019 Pan American Games.

    Lima, Peru; La Punta, Argentina; and a city to be determined by the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee are among the candidates expected to submit to the Pan American Sports Organization before the cutoff.

    FIBT World Champs

    Skeleton starts Thursday at the 2013 FIBT World Championships in St. Moritz with bobsleigh’s showcase four-man event to follow Saturday and Sunday.
