Asian Youth Games to be Held in Nanjing, China
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar yesterday (JULY 1) met at his office Fahad Al Khathlan, director of the Bahrain delegation to the Second Asian Youth Games, scheduled to be held in Nanjing, in China, from August 16 to 24.
It was held in the presence of BOC Administrative Affairs chief executive Jehad Khalfan, Sports Association director Hisham Al Blooshi and technical director Lounes Madene
During the meeting, Al Khathlan briefed Askar on the needs of the Bahrain delegation before making the trip to the far East.
In the Second Asian Youth Games, Bahrain is scheduled to compete in four different disciplines – handball, table tennis, fencing and athletics.
In the team sports official draw ceremony held in Nanjing recently, Bahrain’s handball team was placed in Group ‘C’ along with favourites Kuwait, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
The Games will feature 118 events in 15 sports, four of which involve teams: football, rugby sevens, 3x3 basketball and handball.
The rugby sevens draw will be of particular interest, as the IOC's Second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in 2014 will feature the abbreviated version of the game for the first time in an Olympics ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The 15 sports for the Second Asian Youth Games in Nanjing include athletics, aquatics (swimming and diving), football, tennis, rugby sevens, golf, fencing, basketball, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, handball, judo, squash and shooting.
