  • Day 3 Recap from the Junior World Championships

SOFIA, BULGARIA – Dorothy YEATS (CAN) defended her 67kg title and three new champions were crowned on the first day of women events at the Junior Wrestling World Championships.

YEATS, also the runner-up at last year’s senior world championships, had her hands full with hometown favorite Dzhanan MANOLOVA (BUL) at Arena Armeetz in Sofia. But, a single-leg takedown in the second period was enough to lift the defending champion to victory.

Meanwhile, Yu MIYAHARA (JPN) added the junior world title at 51kg to a list of wrestling accomplishments that include the 2010 Youth Olympic Games gold medal and the 2011 world cadet crown.

European junior runner-up Emilia BUDEANU (MDA) roared from behind to defeat Erin GOLSTON (USA) for the 44kg title and Tserenchimed SUKHEE (MGL) opened up an early 6-0 lead in the 59kg final and made stand for a 9-3 triumph.
