(ATR) Krakow will bid for the 2022 Olympics with Slovakia.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Thursday at the Slovak Embassy in Poland.
Alpine events would take place in the Jasna region of the Tatras Mountains, located in located in Slovakia. Krakow would host the ice events along with Zakopane.
A statement on the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOL) website says the bid will showcase “traditional Polish hospitality and openness to the world.”
Should the bid be successful, it would be the first time either Poland or Slovakia had hosted an Olympics. Zakopane bid for the 2006 Olympics.
Cities must submit their bids to the IOC by Nov. 14.
Other bids for the 2022 Olympics include: Almaty, Kazakhstan; Beijing/Zhangjiakou, China; Lviv, Ukraine; and Oslo. Munich residents vote on an Olympic referendum on Sunday. It is unlikely that other bids will emerge between now and the deadline.
