  • Golden 25 -- #18 Sam Ramsamy

    Sam Ramsamy (ATR)
Elected to the IOC in 1995, Sam Ramsamy is the most senior member from the African continent.

He will serve one more year as a member of the Executive Board, the end of two terms. He is 76 in 2014 and can serve four more years under current IOC retirement rules

He serves as chair of the Sport for All commission, a cause dear to his heart as a leader in the crusade more than 20 years ago to end apartheid in South Africa. As a strong supporter of president Thomas Bach, Ramsamy is expected to continue in that role or take another post in the administration.

Outside of the IOC, Ramsamy is a member of the executive for aquatics federation FINA, where he heads the press commission. He is also a member of the IOC Press Commission.

With South Africa pondering its next steps for an Olympic bid, Ramsamy, as the country’s only IOC member, should be an instrumental advisor and counselor behind those plans.
