Hole eight of the Rio Olympic golf venue (Rio 2016)
Grass seed was planted Tuesday for the first of eighteen holes at the Rio 2016 Olympic Golf Course.
The work was carried out on the eighth hole of the course.
Planting the grass seed is the final stage of construction, following the completion of earthworks and irrigation. The predicted timeline for grass growth is eleven months.
"The start of the grassing phase for the Olympic golf course is an important event in the development of the course,” course designer Gil Hanse said in a release on Wednesday. “We are excited to begin this phase and to focus on the detail and craftsmanship that will make this a special golf course."
Construction on the Olympic Golf Course, located in Barra de Tijuca, began in April 2013.
