(ATR) Young people will be a key part of bringing the 2022 Olympic Winter Games to Oslo, according to bid officials.
Bid chief Eli Grimsby says the Games will be “made for and by a new generation.”
“Young people have been positive throughout the application process and also contributed to reverse the negative opinions before the referendum in Oslo last year,” says Grimsby.
More than 3,000 young people have signed up as ambassadors for the Olympic bid.
“Now, we are happy the youth again will mobilize its power to create excitement for the Norwegian Olympic application.”
The Oslo 2022 application will go before the Norwegian parliament in August before a determination is made on whether it will receive government support.
“We are optimistic that our second and last part of the application in January 2015 will contain a state guarantee,” says Grimsby.
Oslo is one of four 2022 bidders, along with Beijing; Almaty, Kazakhstan; and Lviv, Ukraine.
