  • Golden 25 -- #13 Vladimir Putin

    12/26/14

    Vladimir Putin (ATR)
(ATR) The Russian president was clearly the force behind the massive effort that produced the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

But he remains someone to be reckoned with as Russia remains an important player in the Olympic Movement and world sport. Next year brings the return of SportAccord two years after the convention was held in St. Petersburg, as well as the FINA Aquatics World Championships and the world champs for the World Taekwondo Federation.

With the Russian economy facing challenges, Putin, 62, could also be a factor in making sure plans for the 2018 FIFA World Cup remain on track.

    2014 ranking: 2

The Around the Rings Golden 25, now in its 19th year, is sponsored by EY.
