(ATR) Ski chief Gian-Franco Kasper and ASOIF leader Francesco Ricci Bitti are merging the umbrella body for the world’s IFs and the annual convention.
Ricci Bitti and Kasper are number 9 in the Around the Rings
Golden 25 for 2016. Now in its 20th year, the survey ranks 25 individuals or events expected to have a major influence on the Olympics in the year ahead.
Kasper has been leading SportAccord since former president Marius Vizer quit in the wake of his bitter attack on the IOC last April. The ASOIF chief has presided over the SportAccord Convention.
After selecting Lausanne as the venue for the 2016 SportAccord Convention, April 17-22, the pair will put their heads together with other federation chiefs in January and February to negotiate a concrete merger plan. How different the organization will look from SportAccord’s previous incarnation and whether it will be rebranded to move it into a new era will be among discussion points at the general assembly in the Olympic capital.
Around 2,000 representatives of the IOC, NOCs and IFs are expected to gather at the convention, which will take place at Lausanne's Swiss Tech Convention Center.
