(ATR) Olympian, IOC member and now Chief Strategy Officer for the Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Olympics, Angela Ruggiero hopes to play a big role in the effort to win the Games.
Budapest, Paris and Rome are the other 2024 contenders.
Ruggiero this week was named Chief Strategy Officer for the LA bid, a job that is supposed to take advantage of her experience as a four-time Olympian, as well as her six years of service so far on the IOC.
Ruggiero was elected to the IOC in 2010 as a member of the Athletes Commission for a term expiring in 2018. She just finished her assignment as the chair of the IOC coordination commission for the Youth Olympic Games held February in Lillehammer. She’s a member of the Board of Directors for the Olympic Channel.
Ruggiero spoke with Around the Rings Editor Ed Hula about her new post in Los Angeles and the challenges ahead for the bid.
