Suivez le Soleil ! - LA 2024 Press Release in English
Los Angeles - To mark International Francophonie Day, LA 2024 today vowed to honor and promote the role of the French language in the Olympic Movement should LA be elected host of the 2024 Games.
In addition to implementing Olympic Charter Rule 23 to use both French and English in announcements and signage at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, LA 2024 will ensure that French-speaking volunteers are available to assist athletes and other attendees to make sure they feel at home in the City of Angels. And LA 2024 is committed to celebrating Francophone influences on American and international culture throughout the Cultural Olympiad, and sustaining America's support of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements in the Francophone world.
LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: “On behalf of all of us at LA 2024, we send our warmest wishes to all the French-speaking people across the globe on the occasion of International Francophonie Day. French is the original Olympic language and LA 2024 is absolutely committed to celebrating and promoting the beautiful French language if LA is given the honor of hosting the 2024 Games. There’s no better place to celebrate the world’s languages and cultures than in LA, the most diverse city in the United States. With Los Angeles’ deep ties to every corner of the Francophone world, every French-speaking athlete and fan will have a home field advantage at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the City of Angels.”
The US Olympic Committee is a proud and committed partner to developing Francophone NOCs globally, including ANOCA's French-speaking National Olympic Committees. Athletes, coaches and administrators from countries including Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia and Rwanda have participated in exchange programs in Colorado Springs, while the USOC sponsored CISA Kids Camps in Dakar and Alexandria, among other initiatives. The USOC also partnered with the IOC to provide support for Haiti's IOC Sport for Hope Center with equipment and clothing donations, and will provide technical and management training to Sport for Hope Center staff.
