(ATR) A month of celebrations awaits Japan for the 1,000 days to go to the 2020 Olympics milestone.

Celebrations will begin in Tokyo today, with a second celebration on Nov. 9 to mark 1,000 days to go until the 2020 Paralympic Games. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo 2020 will co-host an event with Olympians and political leaders in the city center.

spoke with Tokyo 2020 Spokesperson Masa Takaya about the nature of the celebrations, plans for the Tokyo 2020 torch relay and where the Games’ project stands.
“We consider this celebration to be the opportunity to promote both Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic games so for this duration of one month we are engaging all of our key partners,” Takaya said to ATR
“For the whole duration of the month the whole population will see the excitement in the lead-up to the Games.”
