The USA Masters Games has won Best New Event in the World’s Best Event Awards.

The award was presented last night at the annual Awards Gala in conjunction with the TEAMS Conference in Orlando, Florida. The World’s Best Events Awards have been presented for 15 years by SportsTravel Magazine and are considered to be the Oscars of the sports tourism industry.

The 2016 USA Masters Games took place in Greensboro, North Carolina and saw over 2,500 athletes between the ages of 21 and 91 compete in 24 sports. Participants were from 43 U.S. states and 10 foreign countries including Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, India, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Turkey and Venezuela. The Games featured Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a health & fitness expo, social events, and live entertainment during their 11-day run, July 21-31, 2016. The 2016 Games included 400 sports competitions at 28 venues. There were 11 World Records, 15 American records, 7 Zone Records, and 47 State Records broken by USA Masters Games athletes.

Thank you to the USAMG athletes, friends, volunteers, sponsors, sport governing bodies, and supporters, and especially to the Greensboro Local Organizing Committee, including the Greensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, the Greensboro Sports Commission, and the City of Greensboro, for making the USA Masters Games an award-winning event!
