China Unicom becomes a Beijing 2022 sponsor (Beijing 2022)
(ATR) The fifth Official Partner for the 2022 Winter Olympics comes from the telecommunications sector.
China Unicom will provide all telecommunication services for the Beijing 2022 Games. The two entities announced the agreement at a signing ceremony in Beijing today.
Beijing 2022 said it believes the sponsorship will bring “smart” communication technologies to the Games, as well as “build more connections within and outside China.” China Unicom will receive “the wide range of benefits that come with the Olympic brand,” Beijing 2022 organizers said in a statement.
“China Unicom will provide best services for the staging of successful Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022,” Wang Xiaochu, Chairman of China Unicom, said during the signing ceremony. “The technologies of China Unicom will connect the athletes and the cheering spectators and television viewers, and connect a hospitable China with the world.”
As part of the Olympic sponsorship China Unicom is unveiling new mobile phone numbers that start with the number “166.” China Unicom says they will release one million of the new mobile numbers as part of a “longstanding commitment to serving Chinese telecommunications and Olympic endeavors.”
Beijing 2022 began its marketing program this year and signed five official partners. Joining China Unicom on the program are Bank of China, Air China, Yili Group and ANTA.
