Mayor-elect of Lima tours Lima 2019 venue clusters
Lima, Peru; 14 October 2018: In one of his first acts as the mayor-elect of Lima, Jorge Muñoz Wells yesterday visited key venues for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
The mayor-elect visited the VIDENA venue cluster, the Athletes’ Village and the Andres Avelino Caceres sports complex in Villa María del Triunfo together with Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus who explained the progress being made in preparation for the Games.
The head of the Advisory Board of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Eduardo González Chávez, and the President of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), Viktor Preciado, also participated in the venue tour.
During the visit, Jorge Muñoz expressed his full support for the work being undertaken by the Lima 2019 Organising Committee:
“We are all here to contribute and support so that together we can host a great Games. I am impressed with what I have seen today. There is calmness in what they [Lima 2019] is doing. I am optimistic because I have seen the professional work the Organising Committee is doing.
"It is a great honour to host the Games in Lima. We will be following the works closely to see how we can support the organisers. We must also be prepared to host all the people living with disabilities who will take part in the Parapan American Games.
“We will coordinate with Lima 2019 on areas such as transport to have everything in order for July 2019. I am certain that we will have a successful Games that will leave a positive legacy for the city.
“I leave happy because I can see that all the work is being done well and for the benefit of those living in Lima.”
Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus commented on the visit of the mayor-elect:
“We are progressing with works in accordance with the timeline set out in our planning phase. The majority of work will be ready by March 2019. We are now working hand-in-hand with the mayor-elect.
“Following Jorge Muñoz’ visit the message is clear: we must work closely together so we can host a memorable Games that places sport at the heart of Peruvian society.”
About the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will see approximately 6,700 athletes from 41 countries compete in 39 sports and 62 disciplines. The Games will take place between 26 July and 11 August 2019.
The Lima 2019 Parapan American Games will see 1,890 athletes compete in 17 sports and 18 disciplines between 23 August and 01 September 2019.
