Lima 2019 Enters Final Stage of Construction at VIDENA Sports Complex
Lima 2019 has entered the final phase of construction at the VIDENA sports complex, with critical venues like the athletics stadium, the aquatics centre and the velodrome progressing according to schedule.
The Organising Committee recently began asphalting the Atlético Stadium, venue for the Pan American and Parapan American Games track and field events, ready for the installation of the IAAF-approved competition track. In January, construction workers will complete roof installation on the velodrome, Sports Arena 3 and the aquatics centre’s competition and training pools.
When complete, VIDENA will include the velodrome, athletics stadium and warm-up track, an aquatics centre with three pools, a 24-lane bowling alley, an indoor sports arena, plus an upgraded administration building and the Lima 2019 Control Centre.
Construction on the site is on track for completion at the end of March. The calibration of the aquatic centre pools will be finalised by 31 May. The complex is also being extensively landscaped to improve aesthetics and accessibility, further strengthening the positive impact of the renovated VIDENA on the surrounding San Luis district.
During the Pan American Games, VIDENA will stage athletics, aquatics, track cycling, badminton, bowling, squash, handball, artistic skating, table tennis and judo. At the Parapan American Games, Videna will be the site of para athletics, para swimming, wheelchair basketball, para powerlifting, judo, para badminton, para table tennis and para-cycling track.
