Bangkok to host ASEAN-themed Olympic Day 2019
Bangkok, Thailand, March 2, 2019: The National Olympic Committee of Thailand will host a pan-ASEAN Olympic Day in Bangkok this year to celebrate the unity of the Southeast Asian nations.
In an announcement on the sidelines of the Olympic Council of Asia’s 38th General Assembly on March 2-3 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bangkok, the Thai NOC said it would hold Olympic Day festivities on June 16.
This year, with the Chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) belonging to Thailand, the Royal Thai Government will use the occasion of Olympic Day to promote the theme “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability.”
The Thai NOC, under the royal patronage of His Majesty the King and in cooperation with the Royal Thai Government, will present an ASEAN-themed Olympic Day to promote understanding and friendship within the region and beyond.
The Thai NOC says this will be the first pan-ASEAN celebration to mark Olympic Day.
Olympic Day has been celebrated around the world since 1987 and over 150 National Olympic Committees across the five rings hold events on or around the official day of June 23 to promote the Olympic values and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
