EUROPEAN GAMES PARTICIPANTS TO HELP CHILD ATHLETES VIA CHARITY PROJECT
MAY 02 2019
This year the start of the fifth season of the charity project #velcombegom, “Evropeyskie Zabegi”, will coincide with the 2nd European Games, the main sporting event of the year in Belarus.
The first stage of the charity initiative will kick off on May 12, at the same time as the Torch Relay starts its journey across Belarus. This stage will extend until June 20.
The second stage will be held during the competition period of the 2nd European Games, from June 21 to 30. Over 50 days, the participants will run a record 200,000 kilometres in support of child athletes with impairments. The total amount of funding donated to the cause by telecom operator velcom | A1 will add up to 200,000 rubles.
Anyone wishing to help the children can track their kilometres between May 12 and June 30 and share them on their social media pages with the hashtags #velcombegom, #A1 and #brightteam. The “Evropeyskie Zabegi” campaign is being put together by velcom | A1 in partnership with the Minsk European Games Organising Committee (MEGOC) and with the support of the Sports and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and the National Paralympic Committee.
The campaign’s participants will run to help children with disabilities who are involved in sports. The raised funds will then be donated to the national training centre for Paralympic and deaf sports, and the Gomel regional centre for Paralympic and deaf sports. The total donation from velcom | A1 will add up to 200,000 Belarusian rubles - or 100,000 rubles towards each beneficiary.
Everyone who lives in Belarus, Belarusians abroad, as well as athletes, members of foreign delegations, sports fans and tourists from the countries participating in the 2nd European Games will be able to take part in the initiative.
As a special bonus, the distance of the Torch Relay - approximately 5,000 kilometres - as well as the results of all athletics competitors at the 2nd European Games will also have their kilometres added to the total tally.
The project #velcombegom is a charitable sports initiative of velcom | A1, aimed at helping children in need as well as children's medical institutions, and at the same time promoting a healthy lifestyle among Belarusians. The #velcombegom runs have been held every year, starting in 2015. After earlier editions of the initiative, 16 children's medical institutions from all regions of Belarus received financial assistance from the company totalling more than 500,000 rubles.
