  • USA Basketball and Red Bull Team Up -- Sponsor Spotlight

(ATR) USA Basketball announces a multiyear partnership with Red Bull North America to grow the sport of 3x3 basketball, which makes its debut at Tokyo 2020.

    (USA Basketball)
As part of the agreement, Red Bull will host more than 20 qualifying tournaments across the country.

The winning teams in the newly created Red Bull 3X series, which tips off on June 22, will then compete to generate enough individual FIBA points to progess to the Red Bull USA Basketball 3x Regionals this fall. The survivors of the regionals move on to the Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals in March 2020, which will be used to select the USA men’s and women’s 3x3 national teams.

Tokyo 2020 will feature eight men's and eight women’s 3x3 basketball national teams in the new Olympic discipline.

“Both organizations are synonymous with athletes, groundbreaking events, creative projects and content, and USA Basketball is thrilled to collaborate in this unprecedented partnership to take 3x3 basketball to new heights.” said USA Basketball Chief Executive Officer, Jim Tooley.

Red Bull Media House will create original storytelling with USA Basketball to feature the 3x3 game, including Olympic qualifying and the debut of the discipline in the Olympics in Tokyo.

Red Bull also becomes the official energy drink for USA basketball; the company will also support the Men’s and Women’s National Teams as Team USA looks to defend their gold medals from Rio 2016.
