Games of the Small States Of Europe in Montenegro
The Montenegrin Olympic Committee (MOC) has entered the final stage of preparation for the Games of
the Small States of Europe (GSSE), which will be held from 27 May-1 June. The Chefs de Mission from the
nine participating NOCs as well as members of the GSSE Technical Committee visited Montenegro recently.
“I think that our guests are pleased with what they have seen so far, especially the facilities that we have, and
will be ready for them ,” said the MOC Sports Director Predrag Marsenić.
“The basketball hall and the swimming pool in Bar are in great condition, but there are some problems with the
athletic track, which I am certain will be resolved quickly. We are eagerly waiting for the start of the GSSE. We are
coming out with 50 athletes and hope to collect some medals,” said Andorran Chef de Mission Jordi Orteu.
Olga Piperidou, his colleague from Cyprus, is also convinced that Montenegro will be a good host. “We noticed a great desire for everything to be ready and, based on what we have seen so far, it will be. We look forward to coming here, and will have, I believe, a good team ready to compete at a high level,” she said.
Over 900 athletes from Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro
and San Marino will compete in ten disciplines in Bar, Budva, Cetinje, Podgorica, and Tivat.
“We are particularly proud of the fact that the swimming competition will be a qualification event for the Olympic
Games in Tokyo, which is the first time this occurs at the GSSE. This is a manifestation that all participants
are looking forward to and for which the athletes are preparing specifically,” concluded Marsenić
