ODESUR Ratifies Asuncion as the Host City of the XII South American Games in 2022
The South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) ratified Asunción as the host city of the XII South American Games in 2022, after the Government of the Republic of Paraguay reassured its commitment to host the largest multisport event in the region.
The decision was taken through an electronic vote in which the majority of the 14 ODESUR member Olympic Committees voted affirmatively to grant the Paraguayan capital the organization of the 2022 Games.
To demonstrate its commitment, the Government of Paraguay sent the duly signed host city contract to ODESUR, which was pending completion.
The members of ODESUR ratified the Paraguayan nomination while taking into consideration the commitment of budgetary efficiency assumed by the country and the positive impact on human and sports development that the Games will have.
“We hope that the next South American Games will be an unforgettable celebration that marks a generation. We want to inspire youth to embrace Olympic values, always under our model of promoting sustainable, efficient events and with a strong social legacy,” said ODESUR President Camilo Pérez López Moreira.
The South American Games are the largest multisport celebration in the region with the objective of spreading the Olympic values among young people to promote the construction of a better world through sport.
The last edition of the South American Games, held last year in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba, was the largest in its history with the participation of more than 4,000 athletes. The event left an indelible mark on the highland country with a tangible legacy that will benefit its future generations of athletes.
