(ATR) The new director of legal affairs for the IOC comes with experience in Olympic marketing.
Mariam Mahdavi will join the IOC headquarters staff March 16 as legal affairs director. She currently is head of legal for AGICOA, a Geneva-based non-profit.
Mahdavi’s experience includes eight years as director of Commercial Legal at Meridian Management. The Atlanta-based firm was the IOC’s marketing agent for the worldwide sponsorship program.
Mahdavi succeeds Lana Hadad, who is now Chief Operating Officer for the IOC. She will report to Hadad.
Terrence Burns, a former exec with Meridian tells Around the Rings
Mahdavi was a strong member of the team.
“Mariam is one the smartest and best people I know. She’s thorough, knowledgeable, and fair. And, she’s a lot of fun! We had a great time at Meridian, and I am so pleased she’s back at the IOC,” says Burns.
IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper says her background with Olympic marketing is a big plus.
“She has a wealth of experience in the sports and entertainment industry from which the IOC can greatly benefit,” he said in a statement.
