LEON DE GUANAJUATO AND SANTO DOMINGO WILL DISPUTE TO HOST THE 2026 CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN GAMES
Panama.- The Executive Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization
(CACSO) announced that León de Guanajuato and Santo Domingo presented formal
nominations to host the Central American and Caribbean Games of 2026, and appointed Santa
Marta, Colombia, as the Host City for the first Beach Games of the organization, which will be
held in November 2022.
During the meeting held at the Wyndham hotel in this city, the CACSO president , Luis Mejía
Oviedo, announced that the decision of the host city for the 2026 Games will be taken at the
next General Assembly to be held on October 30, 2020 also here in Panama City.
Mejía also informed that the Executive Committee approved the conformation of 11 work
commissions that will be coordinated by the members of said Executive Committee and
integrated by representatives of all the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the CACSO
“Our organization changed and the turn towards integration is real. We want all the countries
working for the strengthening of our CACSO and that through the work commissions, which will
be coordinated by the 11 members of our Executive Committee, all initiatives that will boost the
sport of our countries can be promoted, ”said Mejía after the conclusion of the meeting that
started at 8 in the morning and lasted until after 6 in the afternoon.
Precisely for the implementation of the operation of these commissions, the Executive
Committee convened the 1st Summit of CACSO Work Commissions, which will be held at the
end of May in Santa Marta, and where the members, responsibilities and tasks of each of these
commissions will be defined.
In the agenda of the extensive meeting, the financial statements of CACSO and the changes that
have been made in the organization's personnel were also approved, as well as the work for the
presentation to the NOCs of a proposal for identity and communication strategy refurbishment.
It was also decided to endorse the realization of the Caribbean Games of CANOC and the
Central American Games of ORDECA to be held in 2021, those of CANOC on the Island of
Guadalupe and those of ORDECA in the city of Santa Tecla in El Salvador.
